The government has announced salary increment of up to 35% for Nigerian cilvil servants in an attenmpt to help ease the rising cost of living in the country. Critics however say the move wouldn’t do much against high inflation.
The pay raise is separate from ongoing discussion between the government and labour unions about the impact the removal of fuel subsidy is having.
Meanwhile, the unions have refuted the notion that a new minimum wage will further increase the rate of inflation.Â
