Kenyan authorities have faced criticisms from Human Rights Watch for their inadequate response to flash floods caused by heavy rains, resulting in at least 170 deaths, displacing over 200,000 people, and causing widespread destruction of property and livelihoods.
Despite warnings from the meteorological department and the allocation of funds, the government did not take appropriate measures to prepare for or respond to the disaster.
Human Rights Watch urged the authorities to conduct an investigation and ensure timely and effective disaster management to prevent future catastrophes.
