Continuing a 90-year legacy, RNS launches Love Thy Neighbor series and invites partners to support the work ahead

WASHINGTON — Religion News Service (RNS), a leading independent nonprofit newsroom covering religion, will launch Love Thy Neighbor later this year. The yearlong series will explore how faith communities are stepping up to civic challenges with courage and creativity.

At a time of deep division and dwindling trust in institutions, faith communities often fill the gaps: responding to urgent needs, bridging divides and strengthening civic life. Love Thy Neighbor will spotlight these efforts and show how they can inspire new approaches elsewhere.

“Since 1934, RNS has reported on the complexities of religion in American life with fairness and depth,” said Deborah Caldwell, publisher of Religion News Service. “With Love Thy Neighbor, we continue that legacy by showing how people of faith are repairing what’s broken and reimagining what’s possible. These are stories that matter not only to faith communities but also to civic life itself.”

The series will feature articles, podcasts and events. News coverage will focus on responses that show evidence of impact; stories will examine what is working, what can be learned and where challenges remain. Ahead of the launch, RNS is inviting readers to share perspectives and story ideas through a short public survey.
